15 Palm Pre apps you should try today

The Pre has a way to go before its app count matches that of the iPhone.
Just in the first week following the US launch of the Palm Pre, a handful of new, third-party Palm Pre apps have appeared including one that lets you collect credit card payments and a few data sync tools, joining the original 15 or so apps available in the App Catalog. (This is in addition to a dozen or so apps pre-installed on the device when you buy one, either Palm Pre or iPhone 3GS.)
So it's early days yet for the Palm Pre, but here is a round-up of the best Palm Pre apps currently available.

Citysearch

Citysearch is one of the best apps that takes advantage of the built-in GOS capability. It finds your location automatically and then recommends nearby restaurants, cafes, and movie theatres.

There are also listings for banks, shopping centers, and hotels – all with user ratings and an address. You can click an Options button to see a map of the location, write your own review, share the link, or visit the web site for the destination.

There are simple fan ratings, but not the aggregated content from Rotten Tomatoes and sites of that ilk that show you all of the recent reviews from major critics.

One of the best music radio clients on the web, this pocket sized version works exactly the same – you type in an artist name and listen to songs that are similar. Streaming worked perfectly on our Pre over a 5Mbps Wi-Fi connection.

 

 

Spaz
Spaz is a Twitter aggregator that lets you keep track of Twitter feeds, search postings, and add favorites.

 

 

SpeedBrain

One of the few truly interesting games on the Pre, SpeedBrain is addictive because it's a memory game where you have to click whether an image matches the previously shown graphic, and because you can track high scores.

 

 

SportingNews

The client we downloaded for Sporting News (a US magazine and website) showed all of the Major League Baseball scores. You can also show the stats for your favourite team.

 

Soduku
Soduku fans don't have to forgo their daily routine just because they own a Palm Pre – thankfully, there is a client with multiple puzzles to try.
